Running back Bryce Brown has been asked by NCAA investigators to speak about the recruiting practices at Tennessee under Lane Kiffin, Arthur Brown, Bryce’s father, said Wednesday.

Because Arthur Brown has been preparing for an appeal for Bryce to be granted a transfer from Tennessee, he said he delayed the NCAA’s request to meet soon in Witchita, Kan.

On Wednesday, Arthur Brown said he and his son had the appeal teleconference with Tennessee and it lasted an hour and a half.

Recently, for a transfer to Kansas State, Tennessee Coach Derek Dooley denied Brown’s request laying out three specific criteria for his decision.

Arthur Brown said, “Bryce has tried to express why they should reverse the decision. We expressed how he has felt. We laid out a lot about our family’s struggles with illnesses and stresses. I feel we made a good case for an overturn.”

From the request for appeal, Tennessee told the Browns they would take 15 days, which means they should know the result on or before Aug. 21.

Bryce Brown plans to enroll at Kansas State and begin classes on Aug. 23. He is one of the nation’s top recruits entering last season.

Brown cannot be on scholarship this season, and the family would have to pay his tuition, if Dooley’s decision is not overturned.

Arthur Brown said his family would cooperate with investigators, as for the NCAA inquiry.

Arthur Brown said, “They said they want to talk about the recruiting practices of Tennessee under Kiffin. We have nothing to hide. We have no need to be deceptive. If we made a mistake, I can say it would not have been intentional. But I think this is about more than Bryce.”
